Dungannon Swifts boss Dixie caught on the shop

Dixie Robinson hopes Dungannon Swifts’ game against Ballymena United gets the go-ahead today – if only to save him being dragged out Christmas shopping again!

With Dungannon not in action last weekend, Robinson put the free time to good use by catching up on some retail therapy in Londonderry with his wife.

But the Swifts boss is hoping to avoid a similar fate this afternoon — even though a week of freezing temperatures and snow has left Stangmore Park more akin to a winter wonderland.

“You complain about the pressure of football, but when you’re dragged out on a Saturday to shop, you realise how much you miss it,” Robinson joked.

Last year snow and ice played havoc with the fixture programme either side of Christmas, and Robinson is aiming to avoid a repeat of the fixture chaos this time around.

“With all clubs struggling financially, the last thing you need is for games — especially home ones — to be called off.”

The final weeks of 2010 see Dungannon play three important fixtures and his perfect Christmas gift is points.

“While you never treat any game lightly, on paper at least we have a better set of fixtures coming up and we can target a few more points,” he added.

“The target is to take more points than we drop over the Christmas and New Year period, so that we can start 2011 in a good position.”
