Andrew Mitchell believes the festive period could be make or break for Dungannon Swifts' season as their battle for survival enters a critical phase.

The Tyrone side were handed four battles in 15 days over the Christmas and New Year period, starting a clash at Crusaders which they lost 1-0.

Darren Murphy's side are home to Ballinamallard United this afternoon and points really are precious with the Tyrone boys sitting only two ahead of basement side Warrenpoint Town.

"The coming weeks - over the Christmas period - is a big time for us," striker Mitchell said.

"If we pick up a few wins and get away from the relegation zone I think we can push on over the following weeks. We seem to perform well against the top sides. We just need to do it against the teams down around us. That is our downfall at the minute."

After struggling to make an impact in the opening weeks, Mitchell netted four goals in five matches to boost his confidence.

They include a goal of the season contender in a defeat to Glentoran. It was another game that Swifts were desperately unlucky to lose, and Mitchell believes they can take confidence from recent matches.

"We've been putting in good performances," he added.

"We have a very talented squad here and I genuinely think that over the coming few weeks we can push up the table."
