Holders Dungannon Swifts needed a 119th-minute winner to squeeze past Limavady 2-1.

This second-round tie looked destined for penalties with the sides locked at 1-1. But with seconds remaining, Mark Patton's cross deflected in off Emmet Friars to send the Swifts through.

Head coach Rodney McAree said: "It is Cup football and all about the result, but tonight wasn't good enough. It was lethargic and we need to show more desire to score goals. We put 31 crosses into the box, and we didn't do enough with them."

Dungannon were left frustrated in a scoreless first half. Their best spell came late on, beginning when Paul Wells got his hands to Paul McElroy's shot.

From the corner, Ryan Harpur's header bounced against the crossbar. It was a let-off - but Limavady had an even bigger one in first-half stoppage time.

Jarlath O'Rourke was fouled in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. But his assistant had flagged for offside, and the decision was overturned.

Limavady went close early in the second half - and Dungannon capitalised on their misses.

A fine move saw O'Rourke and McElroy combine well, with the latter's shot taking a deflection off Gareth McFadden and in.

Limavady levelled with 11 minutes to go. A cross from Gareth McFadden picked out Ryan Doherty and, after the keeper had blocked the first effort, he fired home at the second attempt.

It meant extra-time, with Patton's cross going in off former Swifts defender Friars to win it.
