Former Coleraine winger Darren McCauley signs for Derry City
Former Coleraine winger Darren McCauley has joined hometown club Derry City.
The 27-year-old had been hotly tipped to join Declan Devine's side in January but instead left the Bannsiders for Scottish Championship side Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
After helping Caley to the promotion / relegation play-off, McCauley has now returned across the Irish Sea to sign an 18-month contract at the Brandywell.
In January, McCauley spoke passionately about his desire to move to Derry City:
"Whatever choice I make I’m sure I’ll be happy but at the same time it’s a great opportunity to play for Derry City," he told the Derry Journal. "It’s an exciting time for the club but you also have to look after yourself as a player.
“Declan brings that passion and the backroom staff are all from the city. It’s a new era for the club and obviously for me personally, it’s an opportunity to test myself in the League of Ireland and prove myself."
McCauley made just two Championship starts for Caley, coming off the bench 11 times and scoring two league goals.
