Foyle Cup 2018 introduces new disability section as entries open

The 2018 Foyle Cup is now open for entries, with tournament organisers extending an invitation to all teams north and south of the border to enter.

The event will run from July 16 to 21 in various places around Derry, Strabane, Donegal and the Causeway Coast, with boys teams from Under-9 to Under-19 level invited to enter.

Girls teams at Under-9, Under-11, Under-13 and 14-plus level are also welcome to enter and, in a new development for 2018, there will also be a Sports with Disability competition for those up to the age of 14.

Last year's event saw 344 teams take part, the largest number of entries so far, with sides from across the world making their way to the north of the country for the tournament.

The likes of Celtic, Norwich City and Sheffield United headlined the British entries to the tournament, while other teams such as the Tampa Bay Rowdies, FC Dallas and GPS Soccer Academy all travelled from the USA.

Derry & District Youth FA Chairman Michael Hutton said: "The Foyle Cup, a family orientated community festival of football, does so much to promote what is good about our city and district and its people."
