Glenavon moving up a gear in race to make Europe: Cooper

Glenavon 2 Dungannon Swifts 0

By Alex Mills

Flying winger Joel Cooper believes Glenavon usually reserve their best form for the 'business end' of the season.

David Elebert and James Gray secured both the victory over Dungannon Swifts and the Lurgan Blues' place in the Premiership's top six, with Cooper confident the Mourneview men have a big finish ahead of them.

"A European place is our ultimate goal," said Cooper. "We are starting to find a bit of form, which usually happens around this time of the season. Defensively we are solid - we now have six clean sheets in a row.

"A lot of questions were asked of us after some disappointing results. We know we could have done better this season in terms of our league position.

"But we've now got our place in the top six and we are again in the semi final of the Irish Cup. But we don't intend to rest on our laurels. We still want to climb up the table with seven games remaining - and we still have that semi final looming."
