Glenavon win Irish Cup semi-final against Crusaders

By Stuart McKinley

Kevin Braniff was the Glenavon hero as he scored four times to send the Lurgan Blues into their second Irish Cup final in three seasons

The Mourneview Park men beat Crusaders 4-3 in a thrilling semi-final to end the north-Belfast club's dreams of a league and cup double.

The Crues took the lead twice in the first half, with Matthew Snoddy scoring both times, but Braniff equalised on each occasion.

After Paul Heatley put Crusaders 3-2 up in the opening minute of the second half Braniff levelled again before he struck the winner 18 minutes from time.

Glenavon, who won the Cup in 2014, will now face either Linfield or Lurgan Celtic in the final at Windsor Park on Saturday May 7.
