Dungannon v Carrick match called off due to weather

By Adrian Rutherford

The New Year's Day game between Dungannon Swifts and Carrick has been postponed due to weather conditions.

Dungannon Swifts midfielder Terry Fitzpatrick believes their lack of goals is a wider team problem.

Saturday's 0-0 draw with Glentoran was the fifth time in six games that the Tyrone side have failed to hit the net.

The Swifts' top scorers are midfielders Ryan Harpur and Ryan Mayse, with six and four in the league respectively.

Dungannon dominated the chances on Saturday, but were frustrated by the goalkeeper and the woodwork.

Ally Teggart and Christopher Hegarty went close in the first half.

Then, after the break, Glens goalkeeper Elliott Morris saved well from Paul McElroy's close range header.

And in stoppage time, an effort from sub Peter McMahon clipped the post.

Fitzpatrick added: "I thought we were the better team throughout the first half.

"We probably didn't create as much as we should have done, but still had some good opportunities.

"Had we taken one it could have been very different.

"They came out in the second half and threw everything at us without ever creating much.

"They put a lot of balls in our box but we defended well - our two centre halves were immense, as usual.

"We had the better chances and on another day could have come away with the three points."
