Football family in mourning after death of devoted Ted Brownlee

Glentoran and the wider Irish League family are mourning the loss of Ted Brownlee, a former chairman and passionate supporter of the east Belfast side.

Ted, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 76, was a life member of the Glens and as his daughter Allison, a former secretary at the club, stated: "Football and Glentoran was his life."

His association with the Glens stretched back to the 1970s when Ted was editor of the Glentoran Gazette and member of the 1923 Committee.

After being nominated onto the board, he was appointed chairman but had to leave the role due to ill health.

Away from football he ran an engineering company in Lisburn but football was his biggest passion and even when he couldn't attend matches his interest in Glentoran's fortunes never diminished.

Ted was a proud Glenman and wonderful company. Our deep condolences to his wife Valerie, daughters Allison, Heather and Lynne, son Ian and his wider family and many friends.
