Institute have announced that Sean Friars will join the club as assistant manager for next season.

The former Liverpool youth player will leave his role as manager of Championship side Limavady United to join John Quigg's backroom staff at the Brandywell.

This is not the first time Friars has coached with Institute, the 39-year-old having coached their Under-20s side to two consecutive Championship Development League titles.

A highly decorated player in the Irish League, having had spells with Portadown, Newry, Cliftonville, Limavady, Institute and Dungannon Swifts, Friars will add experience to the 'Stute panel.

As well as spending three years as a youth player at Anfield, he also has experience in England with Ipswich Town and Carlisle United, as well as stays with Derry City and Finn Harps.

Friars is the second member of Quigg's backroom staff, with Mark Scoltock already confirmed as assistant manager for next season as Institute aim to build on a strong return to the Danske Bank Premiership.
