Institute to play Premiership home games in Belfast unless new agreement can be made

Institute FC sealed promotion back to the top tier of Northern Irish football last weekend.

It was an achievement that was met with congratulations from across the Irish League as the club bounced back from a flood that ruined their Riverside Stadium back in August.

Their promotion begged the question, where would the club play their home games in the Premiership?

That was answered when the Irish FA released details of the licenses granted for next season's Irish League.

Institute were one of five clubs granted a Promotion License. Their application was based on an agreement to play their home games at The Oval in East Belfast.

But, with Glentoran's ground a full 69 miles away from Drumahoe, the club are still hoping they can find a new home closer to home.

A statement on the IFA website confirmed: "The club continues to actively explore options to secure a ‘home’ venue (meeting the current Premiership ground criteria) in the North West of the province and continues to liaise with both the Irish Football Association and Northern Ireland Football League in this regard."
