Irish League clubs host Christmas food collections this weekend

By Gareth Hanna

Glentoran and Cliftonville are both collecting food for those less fortunate during Saturday's Irish League matches.

The Glens host Ballinamallard United at the Oval on Saturday afternoon while the Reds welcome Glenavon to Solitude.

Supporters going to those fixtures have been asked to bring along anything they can from the lists of items below to contribute to the collections.

Glentoran's Christmas Appeal will this year help not only Belfast's homeless, but also those less fortunate in the club's East Belfast area. The collected items will be distributed to homeless charities Stella Maris, The Welcome Centre and Haven Outreach as well as used to make up hampers for the senior citizens and local community members.

If you can't get to the Glentoran match on Saturday, the club's Superstore at the Oval is collecting donations on Wednesday (December 6) and Thursday evenings from 4pm to 8pm while Beep Beeps ice-cream parlour, 254 Newtownards Road is also a collection point.

Cliftonville's Foodbank Collection is hosted in conjunction with North Belfast Advice Partnership, who will distribute the items to those in need, making Christmas Hampers and preparing for 2018.

Since the Foodbank’s establishment in 2014, NBAP have assisted over 600 families with crisis intervention food parcels and a further 285 families with Christmas Hampers, distributing approximately 7965 meals to households in North Belfast.
