Danske Bank Premiership matches will be televised live on BBC NI if the broadcaster can strike a deal with the Northern Ireland Football League.
Talks are at an advanced stage and it's expected that BBC NI will broadcast games live on Friday nights.
Clubs will not receive a cash windfall as part of the arrangement, but it is hoped that the greater exposure will allow them to generate more funding through sponsorship and advertising.
BBC NI provide live coverage of the Irish Cup decider but a move to cover Friday night league games would be widely welcomed by supporters across the league.
Sky Sports already have an agreement running until the end of the 2021-22 season which will see five Danske Bank Premiership fixtures, as well as the League Cup final, broadcast live on its channels.
A NIFL source stated: "The women's League Cup final will be streamed live on the BBC Sport NI website and we are keen to maintain our strong relationship with the BBC.
"We are always exploring avenues where we can enhance and promote the league."
In March, BBC NI expressed their disappointment after losing out to subscription channel Premier Sports for Guinness PRO14 rugby broadcasting rights.
It means regular live terrestrial coverage of Ulster games ended last month.
