Matthew Tipton led Warrenpoint Town to their first ever Mid-Ulster Cup title in a match that only sparked into life in stoppage time at the end.

Two John McGuigan penalties and Josh Lynch's winner proved enough to beat a hard-working Armagh City who had twice gone in front through Conor Mullen and Shea Campbell.

Warrenpoint should have taken the lead inside the first minute when Conor McMenamin found himself in space and he squared to the unmarked John McGuigan, whose shot beat John Connolly in the Armagh goal but crashed back off the crossbar. McGuigan then got the best out of Connolly from a sidefoot volley after captain Liam Bagnall's pull back on 34 minutes.

McGuigan must have thought it was going to be one of those nights when on 73 minutes he poked in a shot that again beat Connolly but came back off the inside of the left post.

Armagh created their first chance of the game with a minute of normal time when Tiarnan Rushe played in Shea Campbell. However, the second half sub could only fire over the bar.

However, they took the lead in stoppage time when a long ball saw the Warrenpoint defence switch off and that allowed Conor Mullen in on goal from the right. He poked it under Jonny Parr and followed it up to make sure it was over the line.

However, there was still more drama in the dying seconds when Dale Montgomery bundled over Aaron Traynor in the box and Referee Lee Tavinder had no option but to award the penalty, which McGuigan duly converted to send the tie to extra-time.

Armagh then took the lead for the second time when the ball fell to Campbell inside the box from a Paul Carvill free-kick and he drove home with his left foot.

Tipton's men levelled once again from the spot when once more Montgomery was the culprit when he was adjudged to have handled Murray's cross and McGuigan tucked away his second spot kick of the evening.

They then got the winner in controversial fashion on 101 minutes when Bagnall played a one-two with McGuigan to go through on goal. He then squared to Josh Lynch to tap into the empty net with more than hint of offside.
