Late equaliser leaves Mullen furious with wasteful Newry
Warrenpoint Town 2 Newry City 2
Newry City manager Darren Mullen cut an angry figure after his side were denied maximum points against close rivals Warrenpoint Town with a late goal for the second time this season following a rip roaring Boxing Day 'Mourne Ultimatum'.
The visitors dominated proceedings at the Q Radio Arena yesterday, with Mark McCabe's strike putting them in front five minutes before the break.
Although Danny Wallace levelled just three minutes later, Newry regained their advantage shortly after half-time when Anto Reilly was adjudged to have fouled McCabe in the box.
Referee Steven Gregg awarded the penalty, from which Dale Montgomery sent Aaron McCarey the wrong way from the spot, while Reilly was shown a second yellow card and subsequent red for his indiscretion.
City had chances to put the game to bed, but they weren't taken, and then Darren King was given his marching orders 10 minutes from time to level up the numbers.
Then, with seconds to go, Deane Watters poked home as the spoils were shared.
"I'm fuming, raging, absolutely disgusted," said an irate Mullen after the final whistle. "We were 2-1 up against 10 men and we couldn't manage the game.
"There's no way we didn't deserve to win that game. We should have had it wrapped up as we were the better side from start to finish, but we've only got a point for it. That's four points now that we've dropped against them and that could cost us."
