Portadown 4 Newry City 1: Portadown striker Richard Lecky continued his dramatic return to form with a super hat-trick that saw the teams switch places in the Carling Premiership at Shamrock Park last night.
It was a trio of different goals — all of top quality — from the big Castlederg man and he set it all in motion after just three minutes when he headed home a classic far-post cross from the right by bang-in-form Wesley Boyle.
Number two came just after the interval, with the Boyle-Lecky combo in tune again. This time Boyle combined beautifully with Keith O’Hara and then turned the defence brilliantly for Lecky to slam home.
The third was a solo effort when he turned a defender and then lobbed keeper Nathan Morley-Hillen sublimely.
After Lecky’s three-card trick, Neill McCafferty added number four when he drilled home a pass from that man Boyle. And when City’s Darren King was sent off, the Newry men seemed dead and buried — but not a bit of it.
Alan Davidson added a late brace, the first from the penalty spot after a misdemeanour by Chris Ramsey and the second from close in after Francis Murphy sent him through.
