Limavady bid for Carlos Tevez can't succeed...
Limavady United's audacious bid to sign Carlos Tevez is doomed to failure.
The Championship One club hit the headlines across Europe and in Tevez's native South America after making a cheeky approach to Manchester City on Wednesday.
Just hours earlier the Argentine striker caused a massive stir when City boss Roberto Mancini claimed his player had refused to come off the bench during their 2-0 Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich. Mancini said Tevez would never play for the club again, sparking Limavady vice-chairman David Brewster to fax City, but his ambitious move to bring the 27-year-old to the north-west is no more than pie in the sky.
An Irish FA source last night told the Belfast Telegraph: "Limavady United are subject to the same registration periods as the rest of Europe and therefore they can only sign free agents outside the transfer window."
The Roesiders have yet to receive a response from City, a development that won't surprise anyone.
