Linfield are closing in on signing former Motherwell forward Christy Manzinga in what promises to be a busy month of transfers for the Irish League, with Glenavon winger Josh Daniels on his way to Shrewsbury Town.
Glentoran and Larne were keen on Daniels, who also had interest from Linfield, but he has been itching to play across the water and will relish his chance with League One Shrewsbury.
While the Blues won’t be snapping up Daniels, they could do a deal for 25-year-old France-born front man Manzinga who, it is understood, trained with David Healy’s team on Thursday night.
Manzinga started his career at Paris St Germain, before spells in France with Lorient and Angers II and Sporting Chatelet in Belgium prior to joining Motherwell last year.
The Windsor Park outfit are keen to do shrewd business ahead of entering the Champions League next weekend and have already landed goalkeeper Chris Johns from Coleraine, with the versatile Conor Pepper set to arrive from Glentoran.
Manzinga has represented DR Congo at youth international level and, while released by Motherwell, Fir Park boss Stephen Robinson felt he was a talented player who could develop.
Elsewhere, Portadown manager Matthew Tipton has signed Northern Ireland Under-17 and Under-19 goalkeeper Scott Pengelly from Fleetwood Town.
Tipton said: “Scott is someone I’ve known for a long time. I always kept tabs on him.”
Meanwhile, Championship outfit Knockbreda have recruited Stephen Garrett as player/coach.
