Celtic's Leigh Griffiths handed one match ban and Linfield fined after Buckfast bottle thrown

Linfield have been given a €10,000 (£8,971) fine after a Buckfast bottle, among other objects, was thrown towards Leigh Griffiths during the first leg over their tie against Celtic.

The Hoops forward has also been punished, receiving a one match ban.

He was charged with provoking spectators as he tied a green and white scarf to the goalpost at Windsor Park following his side's 2-0 first leg victory last Friday.

Celtic have also been fined €4,500 (£4,037).

UEFA has also ordered the partial closure of Windsor Park for one European game, specifically "south stand lower sector I", from where the missiles flew down on Griffiths and Republic of Ireland international Jonny Hayes, and from where a fan ran on to the pitch at the end of the game before being apprehended.

Earlier on Thursday, Celtic were charged with having an 'illicit banner' at Celtic Park during Wednesday evening's second leg.

Earlier this week, Rangers were hit with a €7,000 fine after they were also charged with throwing objects during the first leg of their tie with Progrès Niederkorn on July 29.
