Linfield’s Champions League dream is over for another year after the Blues lost 2-1 at home to Zalgiris Vilnius and 5-2 on aggregate in their first qualifying round tie.

But it’s not the end of their continental adventures as David Healy’s side drop into the new Uefa Conference League and will face Bosnian side Borac Banja Luka after they lost to Cluj 4-3 on aggregate.

The first leg will be at Windsor Park on Thursday, July 22.

Trailing 3-1 from the first tie, superb first-half goals from Saulius Mikoliunas and Ogenyi Onazi made it an even more daunting task for Linfield.

Elhadji Pape Diaw was sent off for handling a shot and Chris Shields netted his first Linfield goal from the penalty spot. Karolis Uzela was also sent off late on but the hosts couldn’t stage a comeback.
