Football in Northern Ireland may be suspended, but Linfield have continued their rebuilding plans by handing fresh deals to Mark Stafford, Daniel Kearns and Shayne Lavery.

The trio have agreed one-year contract extensions and the news is a timely boost for Blues fans anxiously awaiting the game's return. Linfield are four points ahead of Coleraine with seven games remaining in the title race but there has been no football played since March following the Covid-19 outbreak.

Blues boss David Healy is delighted to get the deals over the line. "All three were very keen to sign to extend their stay at the club and I know our supporters will be as pleased as I am that these players have been so determined to show their ongoing commitment to the club," said Healy.

"I fully expect the players to make a major contribution to next season's campaign and, of course, they and the rest of the squad cannot wait to get back to full training, whenever it is appropriate to do so.

"I would like to acknowledge the co-operation of David Campbell in the contract extension of Shayne Lavery.

"I'm really pleased with the blend of experience and promising youth in the squad that we are building, to take us into the new season."

The Irish FA has granted the Northern Ireland Football League an extension of the current season until July 31.
