Ivan Sproule is on move

By Stuart McKinley

Ivan Sproule's Linfield career appears to be over after swapping a title challenge for a relegation battle. The former Northern Ireland international signed a 12-month deal with the Blues last summer, but he will now see out the season on loan at Ballinamallard United.

Sproule had appeared in the first seven games of David Healy's reign as Blues boss and even scored the winner in a 1-0 victory over Dungannon Swifts at the end of November.

He hasn't figured since appearing as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat at Portadown at the end of November, missing the last six games.

Mallards boss Whitey Anderson hopes that the acquisition of Sproule will boost his teams hopes of pulling away from the fight at the foot of the Danske Bank Premiership table, but first comes an Irish Cup trip to Coleraine on Saturday, eight days after the Bannsiders won 1-0 in a league game between the teams.

"Ivan still has the hunger and passion for the game to make a significant contribution to our season and I am confident he can bring goals to the team during the run in," said Anderson.

"By all accounts he still possesses that yard of pace that we have been lacking and I know he is keen to do well."
