Linfield’s Jordan Stewart celebrates his late, late winner at Windsor Park.

Jordan Stewart bagged an 89th minute winner for Linfield as they edged out La Fiorita 1-0 in their Champions League first qualifying round first leg tie at Windsor Park.

The ex Glentoran winger came off the bench to secure the winner in what had been a nervy night for the Blues.

Despite enjoying huge amounts of possession, it seemed the win was about to escape them until Stewart danced past two defenders and the goalkeeper before slotting into the empty net.

A goal fit to win any game, it spared the blushes of Aaron Burns who missed a penalty less than 15 minutes before, or rather saw it saved by the keeper who had committed the foul on Stephen Lowry.

Mark Stafford hit the post in the first half as Linfield dominated.

But La Fiorita still had their chances. In the first half, the ball bobbled across goal and inches wide and after the break, former Roma stalwart Tomassi saw a header fly inches wide with Roy Carroll at full stretch.

How important could Stewart's goal turn out to be? With Celtic lying in wait, we will only know that after Tuesday's second leg in San Marino.
