Linfield Ladies' Uefa Women's Champions League Group 1 campaign started with a 2-0 defeat to Icelandic side Thor KA at Seaview last night.

The Danske Bank Premiership champions, including Megan Bell, donned their red Champions League kit but the lowest seeds in the group were unable to find the net.

In the earlier group game, Ajax defeated Wexford Youths 4-1 and the Dutch giants, who have six international players in their squad, will take on the Blues at Seaview on Friday (2pm).

The Northern Ireland Under-15 girls team beat Puerto Rico 2-1 at the Concacaf Girls Championships in Florida yesterday. Teegan Lynch scored both goals for the visitors.

Stephen Frail's Northern Ireland Under-17 boys lost 1-0 to Denmark at the Nordic Cup in the Faroe Islands.

• Cliftonville striker Joe Gormley has given his backing to the B Active community sports and fitness campaign.

Over three months, the B Active programme from Lucozade Ribena Suntory and the Active Communities Network attracted more than 450 participants, providing young people in Belfast with regular access to sport.

Gormley, who presented the awards at Grosvenor Leisure Centre, said: "I was really pleased to see so many young people contribute."
