Linfield sign Northern Ireland U21 international striker

Linfield have announced the signing of a Northern Ireland Under 21 international forward.

Louis Rooney, 20, moves to the Danske Bank Premiership champions after Plymouth Argyle decided not to renew his contract this summer.

The English-born striker arrives at Windsor Park on a one year deal.

"Louis has been training with us in recent times and his signing will increase the level of competition for places within the squad," said Linfield manager David Healy.

"I'm looking forward to working with him over the coming months and I know our supporters will also give him a warm welcome to the club."

Rooney also had loan spells at Truro and Hartlepool and, although born in Plymouth, has played for NI at both U19 and U21 levels.

The move comes as Linfield attacker Paul Smyth's future is still up in the air and suitors QPR approach the Blues' valuation of their teenage star.
