Lyndon Kane relishing heat of Coleraine title tilt

By Jonathan McNabb

Coleraine defender Lyndon Kane admits he is making up for lost time after returning from a broken metatarsal.

The talented full-back was cruelly ruled out of the Bannsiders' fixtures in Europe and only made his first appearance of the season last month.

However, the 21-year-old has been impressed by the performances of his team-mates in his absence.

"It's amazing to be back playing again," Kane said.

"I had a long road to recovery with many setbacks and dark days, but I'm using all that hurt now to push myself on and help the team perform.

"Being out and seeing the team do so well was brilliant, but it was also quite hurtful at times because you just didn't feel a part of the good things that were happening within the club.

"It was made easier because we've got a brilliant squad and staff here who did everything to help me through it."

Coleraine welcome Carrick Rangers to the Showgrounds this evening as David McAlinden's side try to avoid relegation.

With leaders Crusaders not in action until Monday night, Kane and his team-mates know they have a great opportunity to top the table for 72 hours at least.

"The whole changing room is buzzing," Kane added. "It will be a very tough test with Carrick battling to stay in the league.

"They are a very well organised team, hard to break down and they will come with a game plan. Crusaders not playing until Monday night is an added incentive for us.

"It would be great to get the three points and go top of the league."

Kane made his debut against Glentoran in November 2014 and will soon surpass 100 games for the club he supported as a boy.

"It sometimes feels like a dream that I'm playing for the club I've always wanted to play for and representing my home town," Kane said.

"It has been a fantastic journey, not only for me, but a number of the other young lads who broke into the first-team around the same time as me.

"When I eventually break the 100 appearance mark it will be a very special moment for me and my family."
