Mark Timlin back with Derry City

By Eoin Wilson

Mark Timlin is hoping to recreate his old success at Derry City after rejoining the side yesterday. The Inishowen youngster, who left the Brandywell a year ago to join St Patrick's Athletic, signed a new one-year deal with the Candystripes with the option of a second year.

Timlin was instrumental in saving Derry from relegation in 2015, finishing as top scorer with 12 goals in all competitions.

Now he is hoping to have the same impact as Kenny Shiels' men attempt to build on this year's third-place finish.

"I'm delighted to be back and I'm looking forward to the new season," he said. "I haven't been playing and I'm just dying to get back at it now.

"When the opportunity came to come back and work with Kenny I just jumped at it."

Derry fans are delighted with Timlin's return after watching defender Niclas Vemmelund and midfielder Conor McCormack leave in recent weeks.

Manager Shiels added: "He is ideal and exactly what we're looking for. Already he feels part of it, but it feels great. It's all about doing what we feel is right in the long-term. Mark is only 21 years old."
