Institute recorded their second win in a row and maintained their impressive record in December.

Michael McCrudden's first half penalty was enough to seal the points, but it was Marty Gallagher's late save to deny Eamon McAllister wich secured a big win for Paddy McLaughlin's side.

McCrudden has netted eight goals in nine games and afterwards hinted he could be staying put at 'Stute next month, despite interest from other clubs.

"I'm happy at Institute and I don't think I'll be going anywhere in January," he said.

"I want to stay here and we will see what happens. I'm happy here. We are in a good run of form and it's nice to score but it's all about the three points," he said.

"It was definitely a penalty for handball. Joe McCready and myself up top are giving defenders something to think about and it's a frightening partnership."

Suspended duo Caoimhin Bonner and Aaron Jarvis came straight back into 'Stute's starting line-up with Jake Morrow dropping to the bench and Jamie Dunne missing out completely through injury.

Ards boss Colin Nixon made one change with Joshua Kelly coming in for David McAllister.

The visitors started on the front foot and went close after just two minutes but Eamon McAllister's long range drive rattled the crossbar with Gallagher beaten.

Ards should have gone in front 10 minutes later when Mark Scoltock's defensive mistake gave Michael McLellan the chance to cross but Gareth Tommons' close range strike was blocked by Bonner.

Institute took the lead against the run of play when referee Jamie Robinson felt that Kym Nelson had handled Dean Curry's header inside the box and McCrudden made no mistake with his 15th goal of the season.

Ards squandered a glorious chance of a an equaliser on 50 minutes when Tommons' clever flick found Kyle Cherry, but with the goal at his mercy he blasted over.

Some super skill and strength on the hour by McCready set up McCrudden, but his curling effort flashed just wide.

Ten minutes later, keeper Sam Johnston was left helpless as McCrudden's 20 yard free-kick came back off the post.

With virtually the last kick of the game, McAllister had the chance to earn Ards a point, but his close range effort was somehow kept out by Gallagher.
