North West Cup: Carson’s stunning strike sees Coleraine past Limavady United

Coleraine 1 Limavady United 0: Supersub Stephen Carson delivered a precious goal to end Coleraine's early season agony last night and send his side into the North West Cup final.

His 62 minute strike against Limavady United, seven minutes after he replaced Stephen Lowry, was Coleraine's first this season and handed the Bannsiders a first victory in seven games.

Coleraine should have broken the deadlock on 12 minutes when Jonny Harkness' clearing header sent David Scullion through on goal but he slammed his shot against the post.

United had Niall Cook sent off for dissent as they pressed hard for an equaliser but Coleraine managed to hold on, to the relief of manager David Platt.

Instiute and UUC meet in the other semi-final at Drumahoe tonight.
