On-loan Glentoran midfielder is named Championship Player of the Month

Knockbreda man Karl Hamill has been named Championship Player of the Month for September by NIFWA.

The midfielder, who is on loan from Glentoran, scored two vital goals in the month, as Jeff Montgomery's men climbed to the top of the division.

"It's a massive honour for me to win an award of this nature," he said. "It's been a fantastic month for me because I scored a couple of important goals and played well, but the important thing is the team are winning.

"It's early days, so we're not getting carried away about the fact we're top of the league, but it's also very exciting.

"My team mates and our coaches Jeff Montgomery and Lee Forsythe deserve a lot of credit."

Hamill is hoping his loan spell will help his force his way into Glens boss Gary Haveron's plans.

"The idea was to go out and get some first team experience," he said. "Glentoran wanted me to get used to the rough and tumble of men's football, to see how I would cope with it, and so far I've done pretty well. The main thing is I'm enjoying it."
