Oxford United stand firm over Gavin Whyte valuation as Crusaders could land £500k
Oxford United have slapped a £4m price tag on the head of Gavin Whyte to scare off interested clubs.
Nottingham Forest have been linked with a £2m move for the Northern Ireland international but the League One club are keen to keep hold of their rising star. The 23-year-old has a growing list of admirers after making an impressive transition to the professional game after leaving Crusaders in the summer.
United boss Karl Robinson, who has a track record of securing high fees for his best players during his time in charge of Charlton Athletic and Milton Keynes Dons, said: "It's going to cost over £4m for Gavin Whyte. That's what it is.
"I don't want any other club to think I'm being disrespectful. But we have a value. We've got to be confident in the fact that our players are not for sale, unless you want to pay what we think these players are going to be worth."
If Whyte was to seal a £4m move to another club, Crusaders would pocket a cash windfall of more than £500,000 due to a sell-on clause included in the transfer.
