Hard-up Ports won't splash the cash in transfer window

Ronnie McFall has warned Portadown fans not to expect any new arrivals in the January transfer window.

A lack of cash at Shamrock Park means McFall is unlikely to add to his squad.

It is a frustrating time for the Ports boss, who has seen his side rocked by a series of injuries.

The latest blow came last Monday when defender Chris Ramsey suffered a metatarsal problem in a win over Glentoran. Peter McMahon and Jordan Lyttle also have long-term injuries.

But the Ports boss won't be dipping into the transfer market.

Asked if he planned signings, McFall said: "No - we've no money. We won't be letting anyone go either - no chance.

"If players leave we can't replace them, so what's the point in that? We're short enough as it is."

McFall will have Garry Breen available for today's mid-Ulster derby against Glenavon. The defender missed last weekend's 3-1 defeat at Dungannon Swifts.

That loss ended the Ports' four-match unbeaten run, and McFall wants a response at Mourneview Park. "We need a reaction," he added. "This is a competitive league and there are no easy matches.

"If you're not fully focused and concentrating right from the start you end up in trouble, and that's what happened to us against Dungannon.

"The quality is there but we have to produce it on a more regular basis than we're doing at the minute."
