Red mist costs the Glens once again
Coleraine 2-1 Glentoran
Coleraine popped their name in the hat for the quarter-finals of the BetMcLean League Cup after edging out 10-man Glentoran at The Showgrounds.
It took until the 28th minute for the game to come to life when Glentoran were reduced to 10 men as James McCarthy was dismissed for a second yellow.
It's the second game in a row the Glens have been at a numerical disadvantage, after Darren Murray saw red in a bizarre incident in the loss to Cliftonville on Friday.
The first chance arrived just after the half-hour when Jamie Glackin had the vision to pick out Ben Doherty on the left. The midfielder looked up and sent a cross into the area but it was headed over by Eoin Bradley.
Two minutes later, Aaron Canning surged forward and his pass was left by Bradley. This allowed Aaron Jarvis to go through but Elliott Morris denied the summer signing from Institute.
Glentoran introduced Hrvoje Plum from the bench and he had their first effort on goal, his 30-yard strike held by Chris Johns.
On 40 minutes, Morris was called into action once again as he made a smart stop to prevent Doherty.

Coleraine boss Oran Kearney handed a start to teenage striker Alexander Gawne and he went close after 49 minutes but his header trickled wide.
Glentoran thought they had made the breakthrough on 57 minutes when a long throw wasn't cleared by the Coleraine defence but Plum's well-driven effort was palmed away.
However, the deadlock was broken on the hour as Coleraine substitute Ian Parkhill crossed into the path of Glackin, who headed into the bottom corner.
Parkhill linked up with Glackin again and the latter was fouled inside the box. The ice-cool Doherty stepped up to convert his fifth goal of the season.
Glentoran brought on Navid Nasseri and he slotted home from close range with his first touch of the ball on 72 minutes.
Mick McDermott's side thought they had levelled on 81 minutes when Jonny Frazer prodded home, but he was denied by the linesman's flag.
