Smiles all round at Inver Park on Saturday for everyone connected with Larne.

The fans savoured the thumping 6-0 victory over Warrenpoint Town, the players revelled in the atmosphere and even manager Tiernan Lynch allowed himself to enjoy it come the final whistle.

Lynch is not a man to get carried away. He's always been a feet firmly on the ground type of guy and that will help him and his team going forward.

What was evident in Larne's first top flight game since 2008 is that he has his team well coached and well drilled.

Leading 2-0 at half-time, courtesy of goals from Marty Donnelly and Jeff Hughes - who both took advantage of errors at the back - the contest looked over.

Larne, though, refused to take their foot off the pedal after the break with ace predator Davy McDaid grabbing a double, new signing Mark Randall brilliantly chipping in from 45 yards and the outstanding Donnelly - who reacted to his opener by lifting his black armband to the sky in tribute to his late former manager Tommy Breslin - making it six of the best late on to finish a flowing move.

"We use the word relentless and that's what we were," said Lynch.

"There are still areas where we have to improve but, at the same time, we don't want to take anything away from the performance.

"I was delighted. The boys worked really hard and I'm super proud of them.

"I think they started to enjoy their football as the game wore on and that's what we want to do. I want to see the boys play with smiles on their faces. We have to be able to dig deep as well and that will help us do what we want to do."

Opposite number Stephen McDonnell had to watch his side's hammering in the stands due to suspension.

"It was going to be tough whether we had a full panel or not playing against Larne but I was disappointed with the manner of some of the goals," he moaned. "The first two were bomb scares for us.

"It's a young group of players and we can't get hung up on the fact we lost 6-0 in the opening game.

"We need to learn from it and, even myself sitting in the stand, I got to see a few things which can help me in the future."
