Second-half blitz gives policemen two more games to avoid the drop

By Stuart McKinley

A stunning second-half comeback has given PSNI a second chance to secure their place in the Bluefin Sport Championship for next season.

Knowing only a win would keep their fate in their own hands at the bottom of the table, PSNI responded to going behind to Eoin Kane's goal for Ballyclare Comrades by hitting three in the space of 15 minutes to book a two-legged play-off against Premier Intermediate League runners-up Annagh United.

Tony Tumelty netted on 58 minutes, Owen Moody then fired the Police in front six minutes later before Philip Simpson struck to ensure that Limavady United's 3-0 victory over Knockbreda, with goals from Hugh Carlin, Alex Pomeroy and Stephen Duffy, were in vain.

Carrick Rangers and Portadown already knew that they would meet in a play-off tomorrow night and both managers rested almost their entire starting XI s at Taylors Avenue.

Aiden McGeown, Ryan Strain (two) and a Craig McMillen penalty helped Carrick to a 4-0 victory as they finished 17 points behind champions Larne.

The Inver Park men rounded off their superb season in style, beating under-strength Irish Cup finalists Ballinamallard United 5-0, with David McDaid, Fuad Sule, Lee Lynch, Martin Donnelly and Thomas Stewart netting.

Dergview won their fourth successive game, 1-0 against Loughgall and H&W Welders and Dundela drew 2-2 in the east-Belfast derby.
