Super-sub Brown fires Ballyclare into League Cup quarter-finals
Ballyclare Comrades 1 Institute 0
Gary Brown, fresh off the bench, proved the match-winner at Dixon Park as his goal seven minutes from time handed Ballyclare Comrades a 1-0 win in a tense League Cup clash against Institute.
Brown, on as a replacement in the 75th minute, stole in at the back post from a Stewart Nixon cross to score the decisive goal and send the Comrades into the next round.
It was Ballyclare who came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half as Samuel McIlveen hit both the bar and the post with two chances.
Neither goalkeeper was really tested in the second half as the cagey affair looked destined to be heading for extra-time.
But the unlikely winner arrived, Institute goalkeeper Martin Gallagher failing to deal with Nixon's late cross and Brown rising highest to nod home among the crowd in the box.
