Down Area Winter Football League round-up November 2

In the DAWFL Premier Division, Greenwell Star, last season’s league winners, won 5-0 away to the 8th OB.

Greenwell are sitting in fourth but have games in hand to catch Moat Park, however they can’t afford to drop a single point. Clandeboye YM, entrenched in last place, lost 12-0 at home to 3rd Bangor OB, the latest in a long list of demoralising defeats. Willowfield Parish won 3-2 at home over Comber YM in a battle of the middle.

In the 1A, the 43rd OB couldn’t make it two wins in a row and instead had to settle for a 3-3 away draw with Bangor Swifts III. Second-placed North Down won a comfortable 5-1 at home over Bangor YM III. Ballywalter Rec III won 5-3 away to Ards Rangers III to put some distance between themselves and the bottom two. Newtown Forest won an impressive 5-1 at home over Agape to keep the pressure on the top of the table. Bryansburn Rangers III won 3-2 at home over Bangor Rangers III.

In the Billy Allen Memorial Shield, Castlereagh Colts knocked out the 82nd with a 9-1 win. Comber Rec III lost 2-1 to neighbours Comber Star to exit the cup. Vision Athletic advance, thanks to a 4-3 win over Ravenhill YM. Queen’s Grads III lost 2-1 to Stranmillis 37th OB, who move into the next round. Current holders of the Billy Allen Memorial Shield, Moat Park Rangers, won an impressive 4-0 over traditional rivals Brentwood to progress.
