Down Area Winter Football League round-up, October 31

The Premier Division saw last year's champions Brentwood, now under new management, taking on current league leaders Greenwell Star.

Normally games between these two are close encounters, but this week, Greenwell coasted to a 6-1 victory. Corrymeela moved up to third position on goal difference, despite a surprise 2-0 home defeat to struggling 3rd Bangor, and in the only other game played, Newtown Forest secured a 4-1 away win against Bangor Rangers III.

It was Sittlington Cup action for most other teams. Highest scorers were 43rd Dundonald, as they secured a 9-2 win over Bangor YM III. Moat Park Rangers won 4-1 away to Oakfield Breda and a close encounter between Newtownards RBL and Agape saw Agape secure a place in the next round with a 1-0 win after extra time. High-flying Division 1 side Ballygowan beat Premier Division strugglers Comber Star 3-1 and there were wins also for Vision Athletic, Queens Grads, Comber YM & Ravenhill YM III.

Due to cup action there were only two games in Division 1 with Bangor Swifts III playing out a 0-0 stalemate with Ards Rangers III and Carrowdore YM securing a close 3-2 local derby win over Abbey Villa III.

In Division 2A, leaders Greenwell Star II extended their lead at the top with a convincing 4-1 win over Agape II. Current champions Moat Park Rangers II moved up to second place with a 3-0 home win over Corrymeela & Brentwood II recent poor form continued with a 3-1 loss to Vision Athletic II. It's as you were in Division 2B, as Clonduff II maintained their unbeaten record with a 4-3 win over Oakfield Breda II, Abbey Villa IV having an emphatic 14-0 win over Willowfield Parish II and Bangor Rangers IV winning 4-0 against 43rd Dundonald II.
