Down Area Winter Football League round-up, September 26

This was another weekend that saw plenty of goals being scored throughout all the divisions.

In the Premier Division, Greenwell Star and Moat Park Rangers continue to sling it out point-for-point and maintain their unbeaten starts to the campaign, with both teams securing 5-2 home victories - Greenwell against 8th OB and Moat Park against Ravenhill YM III. Bangor Rangers III moved up to 3rd position, courtesy of a 6-2 away win over bottom club Comber Star, who seem to be finding things very difficult this year. Newtown Forest secured their 3rd win of the season following a 2-1 home win over 3rd Bangor to strengthen their position in mid-table.

In Division 1, Clonduff continue to set the pace and extended their 100% record with a 4-2 home win against Carrowdore YM, Ballygowan got back to winning ways following their first defeat last week with a 5-2 home win against Stranmillis 37th OB and Agape maintained their own unbeaten start of the season with an easy 12-1 away win over Bangor YM III to move up to 3rd place. Castlereagh FC 82 remain at the foot of the table, but picked up their first point of the campaign with a 2-2 draw against fellow strugglers Willowfield Parish. Bangor Swifts III, who were third at start of the day, had an off-day and suffered a heavy defeat away to 43rd Dundonald 5-1. Queens Grads III and Abbey Villa III started the day off equal on points, but it was Queens Grads who secured a comfortable 3-0 away win to move up to fourth place. In a local derby between Newtownards RBL and Ards Rangers III, it was Ards Rangers who came out top following a 3-1 victory and the final game in the division saw Shorts III secure a 9-1 away win over strugglers Bryansburn Rangers III.

There was a surprise in Division 2A when rampant leaders Greenwell Star II suffered their first defeat of the season, following a 3-2 away defeat to 3rd Bangor II. There was a nine-goal thriller between Corrymeela II and Vision Athletic II, with Vision edging it 5-4, and bottom club Comber Star II, who had the best defensive record in all divisions last year, suffered another defeat when they were comprehensively beaten 4-1 away to Agape II.

Division 2B saw Ballygowan II, Abbey Villa IV & Clonduff II extend their unbeaten starts to the season, with leaders Ballygowan securing a 4-2 away win against Oakfield Breda II, Abbey Villa securing a 3-1 win over Queens Grads IV and Clonduff beating Comber YM II, who were relegated from 2A last season, 4-1.
