Down Area Winter League round-up, January 25

With Queens Graduates IV’s recording a victory in the only DAWFL game to get the go-ahead this weekend against 43rd OB II, it gives us an opportunity to review the league tables, as we approach the business end of the season.

In the Premiership, it is turning into a three-way race to be crowned champions, however both Brentwood and Greenwell Star have some work to do if they want to beat Moat Park Rangers to the title. At the other end of the table, it is pretty much odds-on that Clandeboye YM will be in Division 1 next season, with either 3rd Bangor OB or Oakfield Breda looking the most likely to join them.

Current division 1 leaders, North Down, will be looking to return to the top division, having impressed in the first half of the season, recording only one defeat along the way. Also in the chase are Bangor Swifts III’s and Comber Rec III’s, with the latter looking to bounce back straight away after last season’s relegation. Bottom of the pile is 82nd, who will have some work to do if they want to move up the table and overtake nearest rival Stranmillis 37th OB.

Division 2A is shaping up for an exciting climax, with Bryansburn Rangers IV’s, Greenwell Star II’s, Moat Park Rangers II’s and Ravenhill YM II’s all in the hunt, while at the other end, 3rd Bangor II’s and Corrymeela II’s positions are looking precarious.

43rd OB II’s are currently clear leaders in Division 2B, however if North Down II’s win their games in hand, it could make for interesting times come May. Echoing their 1st XI’s position, 82nd are sitting bottom of the table, with only two victories to their name.
