Larne manager Tiernan Lynch can let out a satisfied sigh after the Championship title was safely put to bed on Saturday afternoon.

It had been something of a formality for some time but when Ballinamallard were beaten 3-0 at Inver Park, the title was safe.

The fans have been singing for months that the club are on their way to the Irish League and after 1,301 turned up to see their side make it official, the boss made sure to thank those supporters.

"They're absolutely phenomenal," he said. "I can't thank them enough for what they've done for us this year. That's been from the minute I've walked in through the door at Larne. They make noise week-in, week-out. They follow us near and far and they're phenomenal."

The title success follows just a week after the agonising 5-3 extra-time Irish Cup quarter-final exit at the hands of Coleraine.

"We talked about it before the game - it's that bounceback factor that we've shown this season," continued Lynch. "We haven't lost many league games this season and we've lost a couple of cup games but we always seem to bounce back. That's what this team's all about.

"We're delighted to get it over the line and be able to say that Larne are in the Premiership next season," said manager Tiernan Lynch.

"I'm delighted for everyone involved with the club. It's been a long, tough season but they deserved everything that they get tonight.

"I'd say there will be a couple of beers tonight and it's thoroughly deserved. We put a lot of drink bans on the players over the season and they give up Christmas and a lot of holidays so they deserve that tonight."
