Scott Young last night gave a firm indication that he means business by putting five high profile members of his Glentoran squad on the transfer list.
And four of the stars that the Oval boss is ready to let go helped them lift the Irish FA Premiership title only 12 months ago.
Former Northern Ireland international Gary Hamilton tops the list of players that don’t figure in Young’s plans and although he hasn’t been as prolific a finisher in recent times — with only 12 goals this season — the news that he could be heading out the exit door will stun many Glenmen.
He is joined by Richard Clarke — who only joined the club a year ago — Shane McCabe, Daryl Fordyce and Andy Waterworth.
Young promised changes after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Cliftonville saw the Glens end the season in third place — and it has taken just 48 hours for him to prove true to his word.
It is understood that financial reasons are behind the decision to transfer list some of the players, with those five being among the top wage earners at the club.
It will now be up to other clubs to make Glentoran suitable offers to take the players off their hands.
Definitely leaving the club are Kyle Neill, Dean Fitzgerald and Michael Halliday with the trio not offered new terms at the end of their contracts. Fringe players Ryan Berry, Peter Steele and Jamie Marsh were also released.
