Shamrock Rovers 1 Derry City 1: An Eamon Zayed equaliser was enough to give Derry a share of the points in Dublin last night.

They’d gone into the game with high hopes of eating into the defending league champions’ lead at the top of the table and City could have done with taking all three points in Tallaght — the draw keeps Rovers five points clear of City at the top of the table.
It hasn’t been a great couple of weeks for the Candystripes, with that shock FAI Cup exit and now they have taken just two points in the league from the last six available.
But they will feel they are still in the hunt for the title, especially if Zayed can keep coming up with the good in front of goal.
It took only a half chance for the Premier Division’s leading scorer to grab the equaliser last night as he got his head to James McClean’s corner in the 64th minute.
Stephen Kenny’s plans were thrown into disarray when he had to withdraw Patrick McEleney midway through the first half, Eddie McCallion coming on as his replacement.
Derry came inches away from sneaking a goal in the first minute when McClean broke down the left and set up Daniel Lafferty whose shot went just wide.
But Rovers gradually assumed control of the game and Gary McCabe grabbed the opener in the 25th minute as he met Pat Sullivan’s cross with a header which looped over Gerard Doherty.
Just as the home side piled on the pressure, Ruairdhi Higgins’ 88th minute attempt on goal was blocked by defender Stephen Rice.
