Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp in EFL final countdown

By Adam McKendry

Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp are on course to meet in a Wembley final after Manchester United and Liverpool avoided one another in the semi-final draw for the EFL Cup.

United, whose convincing 4-1 win over West Ham secured their passage to the last four, will face Hull in their semi-final, while Liverpool will take on Southampton, who won 2-0 away to Arsenal.

It means the two enigmatic managers could face off in February's final at Wembley.

Mourinho was serving a touchline ban for his side's win last night at Old Trafford and watched from 'a secret place' as Henrikh Mkhitaryan showed his class by putting in a man of the match performance against the Hammers.

His deft backheel set up Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the Red Devils' opening score, while the Armenian winger also provided an assist for Anthony Martial's first goal, with both strikers netting a brace apiece.

Elsewhere Arsene Wenger's wait for the League Cup trophy continues after Jordy Clasie and Ryan Bertrand goals handed Southampton victory at the Emirates.
