Lewandowski’s hat-trick edges Bayern Munich closer to Bundesliga title
The Poland international scored his 100th Bundesliga goal for Bayern.
Robert Lewandowski netted a hat-trick as Bayern Munich restored their 20-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga with a comfortable 6-0 victory over Hamburg.
Hamburg’s last three league visits to the Allianz Arena has seen Bernd Hollerbach’s side ship 21 goals and Franck Ribery set up another difficult afternoon with a tap-in on eight minutes.
Lewandowski hit a quickfire brace to put the hosts 3-0 up inside 18 minutes before Arjen Robben curled in after the restart.
A stunning solo goal from Ribery moved Bayern 5-0 clear before Lewandowski blazed over a late penalty, only for the Poland international to slot home a second spot-kick in the 90th minute to seal his treble and landmark 100th Bundesliga goal for the Bavarian club.
Hamburg, who have competed in every season of the Bundesliga, remain seven points from safety after Wolfsburg fell to a 3-0 defeat at Hoffenheim.
Nico Schulz put the home side ahead after 18 minutes when a neat through-ball from Serge Gnabry sent Florian Grillitsch free, then picking out the winger in the area to convert.
Wolfsburg remained in the match until the 77th minute when Gnabry fired into the bottom corner to double the home side’s lead, while an own goal from Josuha Guilavogui helped Hoffenheim seal all three points.
Augsburg moved four points off the European places with a 3-1 win at Hannover.
Michael Gregoritsch opened the scoring for the visitors when Francisco Caiuby found the striker free in the area to head home, but Salif Sane equalised for Hannover with a powerful drive from 20 yards.
Augsburg regained the lead in first half stoppage-time with Caiuby being the architect once again as his cross was converted by Gojko Kacar.
Gregoritsch sealed the victory seven minutes from time when he rifled into the top corner after a great pass from Philipp Max for his 11th goal of the season.
Freiburg moved five points clear of the relegation zone after playing out a goalless draw at mid-table Hertha Berlin.
