Milivojevic sinks Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland's Under-21s suffered their first defeat in their bid to qualify for the 2013 European Championships in Israel as they lost 1-0 against Serbia.

Having put four past the Faroe Islands in their last fixture, Steve Beaglehole's men found the going somewhat harder against Serbia in Novi Sad, with Luka Milivojevic scoring the only goal of the game after 17 minutes.

Striker Billy Kee, with three qualifying goals to his name so far, was unable to lead a response for the visitors and, after Preston's Conor McLaughlin was dismissed for a handball early in the second half, the result was almost inevitable.

Beaglehole's men remain top of Group Four and are in action again on Tuesday when they face Denmark at The Oval in Belfast.

A win will be vital at the home of Glentoran, with Northern Ireland having played at least one more game than all of their rivals, with Denmark and Macedonia still to kick-off their campaigns.
