Nacho Novo in 'great spirits' as he recovers from heart scare
Nacho Novo is in 'great spirits' as he recovers from a heart attack sustained in Germany on Saturday.
The former Rangers and Glentoran forward got out of intensive care on Tuesday evening and his girlfriend Stephanie has given a bright update on his progress.
“Nacho is in great spirits," she said.
“He is eating and drinking and now needs plenty of rest and physiotherapy in preparation to get home to Scotland. I would like to thank all the doctors and staff at the hospital who have taken great care of Nacho.
“And a big thank you to all the well wishers and fans who have been in touch to offer their support. Nacho now needs rest and privacy to help his recovery but we are so grateful for the messages, they have really lifted his spirits.”
Novo, 38, took ill during a tournament in which he played for Rangers Legend. He was rushed to hospital after the final match on Saturday and underwent a heart procedure to repair an artery.
The Spaniard was a popular figure during his time with Glentoran, supporting local charities such as SOS, which organised a 2016 Christmas visit to give presents to kids in Belfast's Royal Hospital for Sick Children.
