Paris St Germain v Real Madrid: story of the match
Real eased into the last eight after a deserved win against disappointing PSG.
Holders Real Madrid eased into the Champions League quarter-finals after a comfortable 2-1 win at 10-man PSG.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s 12th goal in the competition and Casemiro’s late strike ensured Zinedine Zidane’s side progressed 5-2 on aggregate in Paris on Tuesday.
Leading 3-1 from the first leg Real never looked in danger against the sedate hosts despite Edinson Cavani’s fortunate second-half equaliser.
Star man: Cristiano Ronaldo
The striker continues to be a match-winner and come up with the goods when it matters. His second-half header was his 12th goal in eight Champions League games this season and he has 31 goals in 33 outings for Real this season. The 33-year-old may be coming into the winter of his career but he is still one of the best around.
Moment of the match
Ronaldo’s header settled the tie and allowed Real to relax. They were comfortable, worryingly so for PSG, before that. Dani Alves was caught on the ball by Marco Asensio and his cute pass to Lucas Vazquez opened PSG up. The midfielder then stood a cross up for Ronaldo to head in at the far post and give Real deserved breathing space.
Stat of the match
Ronaldo has scored in all of his eight Champions League appearances this season. His header in Paris was his 12th European goal of the campaign and his 14th in nine games in the compeition, following his brace in last year’s final.
