Peterborough's Ferguson eyes Darren McCourt

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson hopes it's a case of second time lucky in his pursuit of former Derry City midfield maestro Paddy McCourt.

The Northern Ireland international is on trial with Posh and claimed an assist in a friendly against Northampton Town on Saturday.

United boss Ferguson has revealed he liked the look of the man dubbed 'the Derry Pele' before he joined Celtic.

Ferguson said: "I've known of Paddy for years and we tried to sign him when he moved to Celtic a few years ago.

"He is a very good player who has outstanding ability on the ball and great balance. He can play in a number of different positions.

"We took the chance to get him on board for a few days and he definitely suits the way we want to play.

"We'll talk again during the rest of the weekend and see where it takes us.

"He has other offers, but he has made it clear he wants to come here."

McCourt, capped 13 times by Northern Ireland, has also been linked with Championship club Birmingham City and American side San Jose Earthquakes.
