5 classic encounters between Manchester City v Arsenal
Manchester City face Arsenal at the Etihad on Sunday with the home side looking to strengthen their position at the top of the Premier League.

Arsenal 5 Manchester City 4 (January 14, 1961)
A true classic which took place in the old Division One. Danny Clapton, Jackie Henderson and a David Herd hat-trick gave Arsenal the win at Highbury. City did put up resistance with a Joe Hayes brace, while Colin Barlow and Barries Betts also scored in one of this fixture's highest scoring games.
Manchester City 1 Arsenal 2 (August 31, 2003)
With City playing their second match at the newly built City of Manchester Stadium, Arsenal's 'Invincibles' denied the hosts a first win there. Lauren, under some pressure from Trevor Sinclair, ran the ball into his own net to give the home side a bizarre lead - and it look Arsenal until the second half to recover. However, goals from Sylvain Wiltord and Freddie Ljungberg kick-started Arsenal's advance into an unbeaten season.
Manchester City 4 Arsenal 2 (September 12, 2009)
Emmanuel Adebayor's first game against Arsenal following his acrimonious move to Eastlands was eventful. Micah Richards gave City the lead in a quiet first half before the game burst into life in the second. Robin van Persie got Arsenal back on level terms but City then struck three times in 10 minutes, with City's third scored by Adebayor, who raced the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the travelling fans. The Togo international was booked for over-celebrating. Craig Bellamy and Shaun Wright-Phillips scored eigher side of Adebayor's goal for City, with Tomas Rosicky notching Arsenal's second late on.
Manchester City 6 Arsenal 3 (December 14, 2013)
City battered Arsenal in a season which would see them crowned champions on the final day. Sergio Aguero gave City the lead with Theo Walcott levelling shortly after. Alvaro Negredo ensured City would go into the break in front after scoring his eighth home goal in a row. The second half was a totally different game, with City taking over. Fernandinho made it three with his first goal for the club before Walcott got his second, brilliantly curling the ball in to give Arsenal hope. However, David Silva, Yaya Toure and a second goal for Fernandinho took the hosts out of sight, before Per Mertesacker replied.
Arsenal 2 Manchester City 2 (September 13, 2014)
One of many recent 2-2 draws between two of the most attacking sides in the league. Aguero gave the away side the lead in the first half, after Welbeck had hit a post with a chipped effort. Jack Wilshere brought Arsenal level with a brilliantly worked goal from the edge of the box. Alexis Sanchez put the hosts into the lead when he beat Joe Hart with a wonderful volley, only for Martin Demichelis ensured the points were shared late on with a header from Aleksandar Kolarov's corner.
